Day 2 and 8 COVID-19 PCR Tests for International Travellers Arriving in England
What you must do when arriving in the UK from abroad depends on which countries you have visited in the previous 10 days. This service is for people who arrive in England having been in Green or Amber list countries or territories. You do not need to take a COVID-19 test if you are only travelling within the Common Travel Area (the UK, Ireland, the Channel Islands, and the Isle of Man). There can be changes to a country’s listing with little to no warning if conditions change. Always check https://www.gov.uk/guidance/red-amber-and-green-list-rules-for-entering-england to stay up to date with travel rules.
Before you travel to England, you must take a COVID-19 PCR test in the 3 days before departure to England, even if you have been vaccinated, and book and pay for a day 2 COVID-19 travel test to take on arrival in England. When you complete your passenger locator form you will have to enter the travel test package UK booking reference number. You do not need to quarantine unless your test result comes back positive, or you are told to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace because you have come into contact with someone who tested positive while you travelled.

Unvaccinated arrivals will need to quarantine in England for a period of ten days and take a PCR test on day 2 and day 8 with the option to take an additional PCR test on day 5 as part of the test to release scheme. Individuals who are double vaccinated do not need to quarantine or take day 8 test.
Book a Day 2 COVID-19 PCR Test for International Arrivals for £69 (IF YOU ARE FULLY VACCINATED).
Who can use this service?
You can only book COVID-19 tests through this service if you have only been in a Green or Amber list country in the last 10 days. Do not use this service if you have visited, travelled through, or your journey involved a transit stop in a Red list country in the 10 days before you arrive in England. If you need a COVID-19 test to leave the UK or because you have symptoms, there is a different process for this.
What about children?
Children aged under 4 do not have to take a day 2 and 8 test.
How do I book Day 2 and 8 Test packages?
Follow the instructions in the booking link for COVID-19 PCR Travel Tests.
You must book a separate package for each person travelling. You will have to enter your personal and travel details twice, once to purchase the test kits and a second time to register your test with the laboratory.
How will I get my Test kits?
The test kits will be posted to the address you specify on your booking form and you will take the sample yourself. Alternatively, you can collect your test kit from our clinic the same day (please call us in advance so we will make sure that your kit is not being posted). If you have COVID-19 symptoms, please do not attend the clinic.
What does a positive result mean?
If your day 2 test result is positive, it will undergo genomic sequencing to help identify any new variants or variants of concern. You will have to quarantine for 10 full days beginning the day the test was taken (not the day you arrived in England) even if you do not have any symptoms. You do not need to take the test on day 8 if your day 2 test is positive. Please note that we are unable to refund any parts of the test package.
If your day 8 test result is positive, you will have to quarantine for 10 full days beginning the day you took the day 8 test even if you don’t have any symptoms. This means you will be self-isolating until the 19th day after you arrive in England.
What does a negative result mean?
If you have only been in a Green list country in the 10 days before arriving in England, you do not have to self-isolate so long as your day 2 test is negative. If you test positive at any other time, you must self-isolate according to government guidance.
If you arrived from an Amber list country, you must self-isolate for a full 10 days after arriving in England even if both of your tests are negative. Double vaccinated travellers coming from Amber list country do not require to self-isolate or take the day 8 test.
What does an unclear test result mean?
It was not possible for the laboratory to determine if you were infected with COVID-19 at the time the test was done. You must take another test or self-isolate for 10 days beginning the date you took the test which came back as unclear.
Can I end my quarantine early?
You only need to self-isolate if you travelled from a Green list country and your day 2 test result is positive.
If you want to end your quarantine early then you must book a different COVID-19 test through the Test to Release scheme.
