Atopic dermatitis (atopic eczema) is a chronic skin condition characterised by itching, skin barrier dysfunction, recurrent inflammation of the skin and a link to other allergic diseases. The disease can be caused or provoked by food allergies, soaps, detergents, wool or synthetic fibres, stress, or cold and dry weather.
